The Best Waxing Aftercare Tips

We all love the rejuvenated feeling of a fresh wax! While the results speak for themselves, the service can take a few days to settle in. How you treat yourself in the 24-48 hours following your appointment makes all the difference.

Aftercare is a crucial step you should add to your skincare routine after getting waxed. Since the layers under your dead cells haven’t seen the light of day, be gentle with them.

These post-wax care tips will help you enjoy the results of your treatment without any complications. In no time, you’ll be fabulous and ready to slay!

Waxing aftercare to keep your skin bump free and feeling fabulous!

When you’ve experienced a waxing treatment, your new cells may experience a shock! Once trapped by old cells, the toxins in your body can flood to the surface. Some people experience acne-like bumps after an appointment; it’s a normal reaction. Here are our expert tips to ensure happy and healthy skin!

Keep your skin moisturized and hydrated

Beauty is pain; that’s what they say. Where waxing is concerned, you’ll likely experience some discomfort during and after. But, if you stay hydrated and keep the areas moisturized, it’s a quick comeback!

In the hours after your hair removal service, use gentle products on yourself. Avoid fragrances, body sprays, and powders, as they may clog newly opened pores. You’ll want to give yourself the best rebound from your service by using luxurious body oils anyway!

And, as always, make sure you stay hydrated. Glowing skin needs nourishment from the inside out!

Exfoliation is a must to keep ingrowns away

After treatment, give yourself a three-day break from exfoliating mitts and body scrubs. Especially for full Brazilian waxes, you’ll be a bit tender! Once the redness subsides, use a gentle body brush or scrub before you shower to remove dead skin cells. Be kind to yourself; a little goes a long way!

Hair growth after waxing is expected but may cause some complications. Nothing ruins a perfect surface like painful ingrown hairs. Exfoliation keeps them away by encouraging the baby hairs to grow above the surface.

Consider an ingrown hair serum if you’re susceptible

If you know you’re prone to ingrowns, some products help prevent them. Especially in areas with coarse, curly hair, the potential for these painful hairs is high! Give yourself a few days post-service, then use products recommended by your esthetician, such as Zandiland Deck Scrub.

Another way to reduce ingrown hairs and other concerns is to get onto a regular schedule with your sessions. The hair growth cycle adapts to treatments, so hair grows back thinner and more sparsely than before!

After your first few sessions, you’ll notice the after-effects less and less!

Activities to skip out on for a few days post-wax and tips that will help enhance your skin’s silky smooth radiance

Especially in the summer, the urge to return to the pool or beach is intense. There are only so many gorgeous days where bikinis and drinks fit the bill. If you take the first couple of days off, you’ll appreciate how well your skin responds to waxing.

Here are some activities to skip directly after a session.

Keep your skin cleansed and friction-free for the first few days after your wax appointment

Hot yoga may be on your calendar, but skip the saunas after your pampering. Tight clothing and sweaty activities can cause adverse reactions. Instead, wear loose-fitting clothing and take a breather.

If you’ve waxed private areas, hands-off for a couple of days. It’s easy to transfer bacteria from unwashed hands to your fresh skin, which can lead to infection. Cleanse the areas and keep them moisturized.

Skip those spray tans and any heat treatments

You’ll have especially sensitive skin following waxing for up to 48 hours. Any chemical or heat treatments will feel extremely uncomfortable. Beyond comfort, these products can also clog opened pores and lead to acne in delicate areas.

Postpone your swimming plans for at least 48 hours

Submerging after waxing isn’t advised. Chlorine in pools and saltwater in the ocean can dry out already sensitive skin. And lake water often carries bacteria that can cause infection. Instead of going for a dip, opt for cool showers and lounge chairs. Just don’t expose treated areas to direct sunlight. Sunburns on new skin are the worst!

Avoid applying scented lotions or perfumes to the freshly waxed area

Freshly waxed skin is so sensitive that even if you usually use scented lotions, don’t! Additives in moisturizers can irritate the epidermis and plug pores. After treatment, pores are much larger for several days.

Post-session bumps are common but can be much worse if you use the wrong products. Give things a few days, and you’ll be happy with the results!
